Promoting historic links between Oxford Brookes University and the Methodist Church through archives, artworks, publications and research.
The Methodist Church Collection of Modern Christian Art is a travelling collection and contains works by noted artists such as Elizabeth Frink, Graham Sutherland, and Edward Burra. The collection may also be booked through the Centre.
James Smetham was an associate of the pre-Raphaelites and the first drawing master of Westminster College. The family collection comprises some 40 paintings and etchings as well as books, diaries and sketchbooks.
Portraits and pictures formerly held in the offices of the Methodist Church and the headquarters of the Methodist Missionary Society in London.
This includes portraits of former principals as well as art works bought by or donated to the College. Notable works include John Piper’s depiction of the College at Horseferry Road, and Peter Collingwood’s Wallhanging.
